Dark Elf Race Unlock

Unlocking Dark Elf in EverQuest Legends: 500 Red Wine from the Neriak Third Gate bartender, handed to Lokar To`Biath in the library, with sneak to get around apprehensive faction.

August 7, 2026

Dark Elf is one of the cheap race unlocks: no quest chain, no kill count, just a pile of red wine handed to one NPC in Neriak. The whole thing costs about 28 platinum and a walk through four zones. The only part that trips people is that the merchant and the turn in are in different places, and the turn in will refuse you outright unless you deal with faction first.

Getting to Neriak Third Gate

Four zones in, and the game will draw the line for you.

  • From the Commonlands: Neriak Forest, Neriak Foreign Quarter, Neriak Commons, then Neriak Third Gate.
  • Use the find window in every zone. Press F, pick the zone connection, and follow the yellow line rather than reading the map.
  • Shrink first if you are big. Neriak is a tight fit for an Ogre and the corridors down to the bartender are worse than the open areas.

If you do not have a shrink yet, the Refugee Shroud out of Blackburrow is the cheap one, and it is a five minute detour at 15. See Gotta Get Our Shrink On.

Buying the Wine

The bartender is the easy half.

  • The bartender is on the find list in Third Gate, so you do not have to hunt for him.
  • Buy 400 Red Wine. Scroll down in his window, it is not near the top.
  • Buy 500 if you are not a Dark Elf yourself. Starting faction differs by race, and being 100 short after a four zone walk is a bad trade against a few more platinum.
  • About 28 platinum for the lot, which is nothing at the level you can reach Neriak.

Finding Lokar

Not where the bartender is.

  • Lokar To`Biath is the turn in, and he is in the library rather than the bar. Left room, at (894, -1246).
  • He may not show on find at first. Turn off "destinations I can't use" in the find window and the list fills out.
  • Head back out of the bartender's area, up and across to the library.

Do not buy the wine after finding him. The bar and the library are far enough apart that you want the stack in your bags before you make the trip.

The Faction Problem

This is the part that stops people.

  • Con him first. He is on Dark Bargainers faction and needs a minimum of dubious to accept the wine. As an Ogre he reads apprehensive, one step short, and simply refuses the trade.
  • Sneak is the fix. Turn on Sneak, get behind him, and con again. Sneaking behind an NPC drops the effective faction check enough for the trade to go through.
  • No Sneak? Click a Dark Elf illusion. The illusion puts you at the faction you need, and you do not have to be able to wear the item to use it.
  • Sneak comes from more than Rogue. Monks have it, and Bards get it at 17, so a loadout swap is the free option if you do not own an illusion.

The illusion item is the Guise of the Deceiver. Only Bards and Rogues can equip it, but the clicky fires from any slot, so any class can carry one in a bag and use it for this.

The Handin

All of it, at once.

  • Drop the whole stack on him in one trade rather than splitting it across several.
  • Expect the client to lag while it processes several hundred items. That is normal, not a failed turn in.
  • Con him again afterward to confirm it took.

What you end up with: Magus Ally, Dark Bargainers, Dread Guard and Dread Guard Inner all move, which is the signal the unlock fired.

Confirming It Worked

Two places to check.

  • Untapped Potential, then Races. Dark Elf is now listed.
  • Loadouts, then edit any loadout. Dark Elf is selectable as a race.
  • You do not have to switch now. Clicking a Dark Elf illusion shows you what the loadout would look like without committing to it.

Hello and welcome to a EverQuest Legends guide on how to unlock the dark elf race. These guys are right here. So, I’m a big fat ogre. I want to be a little bit a little smaller, right? Now, I do have the dark elf illusion mask, but uh we’re going to do this the hard way. Uh so, step one, you come in here to Neriak third gate, right? So, uh if you’re coming from the Commons Commonlands, Neriak forest, Neriak foreign quarter, Neriak Commons, and Neriak third gate is where you’ll end up. Uh when you zone in each of these zones, you can hit F, and then you can go down here to like zone connection, and it’ll give you this little yellow line to follow to go around. Uh I just picked the bartender from the list here in the third uh the third [snorts] gate. I come over here, open up your window. Uh you’re going to want to buy 400. Red wine is cost what? Uh 28 platinum? Not too bad. Just scroll down here, and then you you buy uh those uh 400 there. I’m going to buy 500 just to be sure uh cuz I don’t know as an ogre if I need more faction or not. Now, we need to go to another guy. Uh he’s also in here. He should be on the find. He was when I did it last. Doesn’t look like he’s here now. Let me see here. Turn off destinations I can’t use. There we go. That might give us another another set of names here. Now, his name starts with an L. It’s Locar. Uh I’m not seeing it. So, he’s in the library, which let’s go to this map here. Uh we need to come out a little bit get to that one. So, we’ll skip Let’s just get out of here first. Here, let’s uh Let me shrink cuz this is I was walking down here and it was a a little bit of a tight fit, if you know what I mean. There we go. All right, let’s get out of this hole. Let’s just this little bartender area right here, right? No. Right through here and then right here. Star. All right, so we’re in the library. Go over and over here. Right here, he’s right here. So, con him. Uh he’s apprehensive to me. I’m going to hand him all 500 red wine at once. Oh, he doesn’t like me. So, uh let’s do a trick here. Uh we’re going to sneak. Con, still apprehensive. Can I get behind him? There we go. Uh now, if you don’t have sneak, the dark elf mask will put you at the faction you need to be able to do it. There we go. And we just drop all 500 of those on him. And uh you’ll lag for a bit, right? All right. Now, if we con him again, all right, we’ve got [music] Magus Ally, Dark Bargainers, Dread Guard, Dread Guard Inner, and we’ve unlocked the Dark Elf race. Right? Pretty simple there. Uh let’s go here to Untapped Potential, races, and then now we have Dark Elf, and if we go to Loadouts, and let’s just say edit this one, I can now pick Dark Elf, right? All right, pretty simple uh there. Uh let’s go ahead. I’ll I’ll turn into a illusion. I don’t want to change my loadout right now. But, and there we go. And that’s what you’ll look like as a dark elf in your nice and shiny warrior armor. Uh hopefully that helps you unlock the uh the dark elf class. Or race.
