How I Play My Level 55 Rogue
How I play my level 55 EverQuest Rogue, a solo backstabber running behind a tank mercenary. Covers double backstab, the level 55 disciplines (Thief's Vengeance, Nimble, Counterattack, and the accuracy discipline), poisons, potions, and mercenary swaps.
There is not a lot to a level 55 Rogue, so this is a short one. I play her solo behind a tank mercenary: I mark the merc as the tank and myself as assist, let the merc pull the mob off me in a round or two, then get behind it and backstab. On Live there are also disciplines, poisons, and potions that carry a classic-era class a long way.
Session Overview
Solo behind a mercenary.
- Role: solo backstab damage. I run the tank mercenary and let her hold the mob.
- The setup: mark the merc as the tank and myself as assist. Within a round or two she pulls the mob off me, and then I can get behind it.
- Era note: on Live I have the disciplines and consumables below. On a TLP from classic through Kunark you would have fewer abilities, but the core attacks stay the same.
- See it in action: I play this character solo from 1 to 55 in Towani, A Rogues Tale.
Backstab & Rotation
Get behind it and stab.
- Double backstab: unlocked at 55, so every backstab is now two hits.
- Numbers: around 242 with a 13-damage main hand, and I have seen up to the 500s. The next video swaps to a 15-damage weapon, which moves the damage up noticeably.
- The loop: backstab as much as I can while auto-attacking. The mercenary pulls the mob off me in a few combat rounds, so I do not take much damage while I work the back.
Disciplines
What 55 opens up.
- Thief's Vengeance: the sneak-attack line (originally Sneak Attack at 20). While sneaking, it takes careful aim so your next backstab never misses and hits harder. You have to be hidden a few seconds first, so I sneak around and then trigger it as a combat opener.
- Nimble Discipline: a 12-second defensive that lets you avoid most attacks, on a 21-minute reuse. This is the one I run, since I would rather take less damage than riposte.
- Counterattack Discipline: the other 12-second defensive, riposting all incoming attacks so you take no melee damage and hit back. It is on a longer 40-minute reuse, which is why I skip it when the merc might pull the mob off me anyway.
- Accuracy discipline: a timer 4 discipline that boosts hit rate so I connect on nearly every swing, plus damage. It does not stack with the defensives at the same time.
- Poison Spurs Trap: new at 55, a long 5-second cast that drops a trap to snare and draw enemies in, on a roughly 4-minute reuse. It vanished almost instantly for me, and I do not see myself using it.
Poisons & Potions
Live consumables that punch up.
- Poison: on Live I buy from the toxicologist in the Plane of Knowledge. The cheap level 55 option is Chizoku 9, applied to the weapon for roughly 2,300 to 2,400 damage when it lands.
- Distillate of Divine Healing VIII: heals me for about 1,000.
- Distillate of Celestial Healing VIII: a heal-over-time, around 250 to 300 a tick for 30 seconds.
- Distillate of Health VIII: extra armor class and health.
- Distillate of Alacrity VIII: 40% spell haste, which pushes me toward the haste cap.
Where to get them: the potions come from the potion merchant in the Plane of Knowledge, and they are all cheap and worth carrying.
Mercenaries
Swap for the job.
- Tank merc: my default. She holds the mob so I can get to the back.
- Healer merc: I can switch to her to buff up, then swap back to the tank afterward.
- When to swap: handy on a long fight or a raid tick, where the extra sustain from the healer is worth the swap.
Rogue Cheat Sheet
- Set up: mark the tank mercenary as the tank and yourself as assist.
- Open: sneak for a few seconds, trigger Thief's Vengeance, and backstab.
- Fight: once the merc pulls the mob off you, get behind it and double backstab while auto-attacking.
- Buff up: weapon poison on, and pop the accuracy discipline for a higher hit rate.
- Stay alive: Nimble Discipline when you are taking hits, and lean on the distillate potions to heal.

hello and welcome to how I play My Level 55 Rogue so uh let’s get right into it this isn’t going to be a very long video because there is not a lot to the level 55 Rogue but on live there are some disciplines if you’re playing in uh from uh TLP to say classic to kunar you’re going to have a less abilities but uh for the most part these abilities uh kind of stay the same so let’s uh I go into how I uh let’s just go with how I play if you want to see like videos of how I solo this character uh check out the toan a thieves tail uh series of videos and in that I play this character as a Solo character going from uh 1 to uh 55 at this point now uh basically what I do is I have the mer tank mercenary and uh it’s hard to like demonstrate but let’s just say that this guy like it is being tanked by that so uh I Mark her as the tank I Mark myself as ass assist and typically within uh one or two combat rounds she will pull it off of me and then that allows me to backstab at 55 we have uh double backstab now so let me see here if we can get a double backstab out of this let’s turn off auto attack and yeah we missed this is like a level 90 mob anyway so it’s not going to really work but we have double backstab now and I backstab for uh this should right there 242 highest I’ve SE seen is in the 500s at this point with a uh 13 damage main hand now uh in the next video we are going to change that I already have the next weapon which is going to be a 15 damage we uh thing so the the damage will vary significantly but let’s talk about disciplines uh since that is pretty much the next thing here now we have a few disciplines and at 55 plus we did pick up a lot right so like from 40 to there we got picked up a lot of new things uh the first thing I like to do is when I’m I sneak around right so I you know I go into stealth mode you know I’m sneaking so you see I’m slow uh and then I can hit thieves Vengeance and let me see which one’s the lowest 85 90 95 all right let’s go with this one right here so I have thieves Vengeance and I have a few seconds to do a backstab there we go it didn’t do much to more because of so much the higher levels but it is a bonus to backstab while I’m sneaking so it’s a nice combat initiative kind of attack if we can get that back open so thieves Avengers originally at level 20 it’s called sneak attack I do not know what what uh expansion adds these because these these are not available in uh classic or kunark as far as I know so that would be like all the way to you know 55 right or the game but on live they are available and now you see it take careful aim causing your next back stab to never miss and cause greater damage you will also only prepare a sneak deck after you’ve been hidden for a few seconds so you have to kind of sneak for a few seconds beforehand before you do it so I I like to do it while I’m sneaking around and then just activate it you do have a little bit of time uh before it wears off uh the other one that we have we have two defensive Styles now you can go with two different thoughts of how you want to play this right uh Counterattack discipline allows you to repost all incoming attacks so you take zero damage from melee attacks as they hit on you and every attack gets uh like a repost back so you you you will do damage while you’re doing it the other thought of process on this is uh Nimble discipline which is from 55 your combat reflexes allow you to avoid most attacks both of these are 12 seconds um right here now Counterattack is a 40 minute reuse whereas Nimble is a 21 minute reuse I’ve chosen to go with Nimble because I rather take less damage than uh repost because if say my tank mercenary pulls it off of me I’m wasting you know I’m I’ve wasted 20 minutes cuz the ReUse timer is 20 minutes longer right uh so I go with Nimble I have it there just in case I want to use it and then uh we also picked up a new timer 4 discipline which will increase our hit rate so this will make us hit pretty much every attack uh increase s damage this here all like I’m missing like all these times that kind of goes away when you have that discipline running right and it uh it does not stack with the other at the same time so it’s option there and then at 55 we also picked up this one which is called po poison Spurs trap now I’ve never used this cuz I I just realized I had I could buy it and uh it’s it’s a long cast time right so you can see here it’s it’s like a you know four or 5 Second cast time it puts a little trap on the ground and what that will do is uh snare enemies and draw them near so uh we’ll try it out in the in the next video see how that works but it a 5 minute reuse what is it no 4 minute reuse and a 5-second cast time I don’t see myself using this at all uh considering it like instantly disappeared so I don’t know so uh let’s see here that’s all the disciplines we have uh we got I don’t know if I mentioned we picked up double backstab so we’ll be doing double backstabs now I probably did mention it that was one backstab uh let’s see here poisons so if you’re on live you have access to some poisons that you can purchase in the uh plane of Knowledge from uh the toxicologist and currently it is B the chisar 9 as the cheap one you can buy this is a level 55 use so let’s use one of these real quick there we go we kind of attack this guy and go to spell damage he’s going to probably resist all these yeah he’s going to resist them all we’ll see we’ll see what that damage is but it it should be in like the 23 2400 damage at this point uh it’s pretty good I also use uh distill it of alacrity what is that eight and then uh distillative Celestial healing a and distillative Divine Healing a eight and uh distillative Health eight right so these are available from the potion potion Merchant in PL of knowledge also now these are all very nice little potions to have on you uh one the healing one Divine Healing heals me for a th000 the celestial healing will heal me for uh 300 uh or 250ish a tick for 30 seconds and then the distill it of health will just give me some extra armor class and health uh now I do like I do run the uh the tank mercenary but I do have the ability to switch to other mercenaries like the Healer one right here and she will buff me up also and I can switch back to the tank one you know after the fact but sometimes you’re fighting in a long fight or you have uh the F minute raid tick so it’s nice to have that a little extra Health you can pick up there and then uh distillative alacrity is 40% spell haste uh which will put us at uh what is that 162 is uh haste almost getting to that you know that cap of uh two uh 210 or something like that so gets us closer to where we want to be right uh but for the most part it is uh go in what is what level is this one 100 I swear I have the wrong dummies up uh can’t even click on that guy but you want to kind of come like right here right you know always backstab as much as you can there was a double backstab Miss um and just attack and typically my uh combat dummy or my combat dummy my uh mercenary will pull the mob off of me in a few combat rounds so I’m not taking too much damage there but that is how I play My Level 55 Rogue if you want to see it in action check out the Tani a thieves life or thieves tail I’m not sure can’t remember exactly what I named it uh series and inside that series I pretty much do this character solo fighting through things um I do plan on making an episode here in a minute uh going to cilis and uh what is this one the Deep so we’ll go and do those and we’ll check that out and that will be what we see next and you’ll see it in combat in action uh as we work our way to level 60 but uh thank you very much for watching and please have a fantastic day no
